The Camps CW1 is a crossover guitar that combines classical elements with modern playability, suitable for a variety of musical styles.

Introduction to the Camps CW1 Crossover Guitar

The Camps CW1 Crossover Guitar is manufactured by Camps Guitars in Spain, a country with a rich history of guitar craftsmanship. The instrument features a solid cedar top or an alternative solid spruce top, paired with ziricote back and sides. The use of solid wood for the top is a traditional choice known for its ability to produce a warm and resonant sound that matures with age. Ziricote is a visually striking wood with excellent tonal properties, contributing to the guitar's projection and sustain.

The guitar's fingerboard is made from rosewood, a dense and hard wood favored for its smooth playability and durability. The neck, also crafted from cedar, complements the top and is designed with a truss rod for adjustable stability. The bridge, like the fingerboard, is constructed from rosewood, which provides a stable anchor for the strings and transmits vibrations efficiently to the top.

Playability and Design

The CW1 features a cutaway in the body, allowing easier access to the upper frets, and a lightly radiused fingerboard which enhances comfort during play. The neck width at the nut is 48 mm, narrower than traditional classical guitars, which facilitates easier transitioning for players accustomed to steel-string or electric guitars. The scale length of 636 mm is shorter than the standard classical guitar length, which can make fretting notes easier, especially for those with smaller hands.

The body depth at the heel is 85 mm, and at the bottom, it is 90 mm, dimensions that contribute to the guitar's ergonomic feel and balanced sound. The distance between the 1st and 6th strings is 55 mm, providing ample spacing for fingerstyle techniques. Both the saddle and nut are made from bone, a material that offers superior resonance and sustain compared to synthetic alternatives.

Electronics and Finish

The CW1 is equipped with Fishman Classic Blend electronics, a popular choice for amplifying nylon-string guitars. This system allows for blending of under-saddle piezo pickup tones with microphone modeling, giving the player control over the amplified sound. The matte finish on the guitar is not only aesthetically pleasing but also avoids the dampening of the guitar's resonance that can occur with thicker gloss finishes.
